Jane-PittDear Friends,

I am thrilled to let you know that my new album, “Road To Dreamland: Unexpected Lullabies for All Ages,” has been awarded a Gold Award by the prestigious Parents’ Choice Foundation.

“Road to Dreamland” is a collection of soothing songs for both babies and grownups. Some of the songs here were written as baby’s lullabies, and some were written as love songs—but what is a lullaby but a love song? Composed by poets and songwriters as diverse as Neil Young, Hoagy Carmichael, and Rabindranath Tagore, all these songs give the same universal message: you are loved and I will take care of you, so you can relax and go to sleep.

“Jazz singer Jane Roman Pitt’s oh-so-lovely album’s subtitle, “Unexpected Lullabies for All Ages,” is apt. Among the tender, off-the-beaten-path lullaby choices here, are the Thad Jones classic, “A Child is Born,” Neil Young’s “Barefoot Floors,” and this exquisite little art song hinting of magic and fairyland: “The Sleep That Flits (on baby’s eyes)” (text by Rabindranath Tagoe, music by John Alden Carpenter). Pitt’s original “Dance Like the Wind,” is a smooth fit; other soothing, well-chosen tracks include “Over the Rainbow,” “The Nearness of You,” and “Summertime.” The jazz arrangements and instrumentation here are A+, and the singer herself, who styles the songs with lilting vibrato and a soft vocal caress, is chief among the album’s unexpected treats.”

“Road To Dreamland” was recorded, produced and engineered by Chris Rosser at Hollow Reed Arts Studio and Sound Temple Studio in Asheville, North Carolina. It is the result of a collaboration between a group of incredibly creative musicians and myself. We worked together to create arrangements that would combine the talents and interests of each musician—world music, jazz, classical, folk—into a unified feeling that is soothing and uplifting.

The musicians are: Chris Rosser on keyboards, Franklin Keel on cello, River Guergarian on percussion, Matthew Richmond on vibes, Al Schlimm on classical guitar, Jacob Rodriguez on saxophone. The cover artwork is by my friend James Flames, a well known poster artist for bands all over the country.

“Road To Dreamland” is available on iTunes, our buy page, Amazon, and CD Baby.
